Pipercross Audi C8 RS6/RS7 AirMax intake system
The Pipercross AirMax intake system has been designed to directly replace the original Audi airbox cover, air filter and turbocharger intake pipes on the RS6/RS7 C8 with the 4.0TT engine.

EVALUATION OF THE ORIGINAL INTAKE
The original intake system of the Audi 4.0TT engine (found in C8 RS6/RS7 vehicles) has a series of performance-oriented design features that one would expect from Audi RS-level vehicles. These design aspects enable the original intake system to properly meet the airflow needs of the 4.0TT engine in almost all situations, when the engine is operating with the original software and settings. Conversely, this same original system begins to show weaknesses when aftermarket engine tuning kits are applied - especially given the significant performance potential of the 4.0TT engine with an aftermarket tuning (and the resulting drastic increase in engine airflow requirements).
The Pipercross engineering team identified the original equipment intake filtration medium, airbox outlet sizes and upper airbox internal volume as all having potential for intake airflow improvement. However, the lower half of the original airbox (and filter shape/size) and the inlets to the original turbocharger were deemed sufficient to achieve the considerably increased airflow targets, based on the RS-level OE performance design efforts, the size/functionality of the specific parts and the experience of Pipercross engineers in overall performance intake design across a multitude of engines/chassis.

PLUS PANEL FILTER
Pipercross' flagship panel filter, the Pipercross Plus, is the performance heart of the C8 RS6/RS7 intake kit. This filter uses a custom-made hybrid foam filter stack to achieve the optimal balance between increased air flow and filtration. In addition, the Plus filter range features an industry-first 0.9 mm thick CNC laser-cut aluminium support frame, which increases effective airflow by 22.1% compared to typical steel mesh support frames. The Plus filter was compared to the pleated filter of the original equipment through air flow tests inside the complete intake system of the original equipment. During these tests, the Plus filter clearly outperformed the original panel filter, reducing airflow restriction by an average of 38.66% (and by a maximum of 47.47% at 200 CFM). As such, the Plus filter serves as the basis for the construction of the rest of the Pipercross AirMax kit, with all other intake components being meticulously designed to take advantage of this drastic increase in airflow performance.

AIRBOX
The Pipercross C8 RS6 AirMax cover completes the potential for drastic increase in airflow of the Plus filter. Using the latest 3D scanning and CAD technologies, the AirMax cover has been carefully designed to achieve a larger internal post-filter volume, thus maximising the space available in the engine compartment under the bonnet without compromising the installation and clearance standards of the original equipment. Similarly, this same technology has been employed to increase the dimensions of the lid outlet, which has allowed for a 61.39% increase in the internal cross-section of the outlet compared to the original equipment. The two geometric features were combined using the latest CAD technologies, integrating these features into the Pipercross part with a flow-enhancing geometry to facilitate the formation of a laminar intake flow and further increase the flow rate within the AirMax system. All the functional performance enhancements are combined in a single carbon fibre unit that adds beautiful aesthetics of form and function to any RS6 C8 engine bay.

TECHNOLOGY
The Pipercross RS6 AirMax outlet pipes complement the performance advantages of the AirMax cover and Plus filter. In addition to adapting to the larger outlets, the Pipercross pipes also eliminate the bending convolutions that destabilise the flow of the original pipes (as well as some competitor pipes). These convolutions create major flow instabilities at the inner boundaries of the convolutions, resulting in a smaller effective internal cross-section (and therefore a lower air flow). The Pipercross pipe also has specially adapted original turbocharger inlet connections, which stabilise the internal air flow even more and maximise the pipe's internal air flow surface.

DETAILS
The subtle details and auxiliary parts of the Pipercross AirMax intake kit elevate it to the rank of a top-of-the-range product. The AirMax cover has an integrated aluminium base plate bonded to the carbon cover. This bonded plate ensures a constant seal to the panel filter. Aluminium structures are bonded into the AirMax cover outlets to ensure the long-term structural integrity of the outlets to cope with repeated mechanical/thermal loading conditions. All stainless steel hardware is supplied with the AirMax kit (as well as the flared aluminium mounting brackets) to ensure that corrosion, oil and other adverse environmental factors in the engine compartment have no effect on the function or aesthetics of the Pipercross kit, no matter how intensively the vehicle is driven.
