The Milltek Z-Pipe features a unique connection architecture between the two exhaust branches. This design allows the exhaust pulses from the two sets of three cylinders in the S58 engine to interact, unlike a configuration consisting of two independent manifolds.

Its main advantage lies in transforming the S58 engine’s sound signature. According to Milltek, this geometry produces a higher-pitched and more exotic tone during acceleration, while reducing aggressive metallic sounds. The manufacturer compares the resulting acoustic character to that of the Nissan GT-R R35.

During deceleration, this configuration promotes a deeper tone and more noticeable exhaust crackling. The Z-Pipe thus allows for a more refined and distinctive sound than that produced by a traditional X-pipe, a resonator, or two straight intermediate exhaust manifolds.

Beyond its acoustic performance, Milltek also reports a reduction in exhaust gas backpressure. Its 3D-printed construction allows for a complex internal geometry while minimizing the increase in weight compared to a traditional X-pipe.

This 316L stainless steel Z-Pipe conversion is designed for BMW M3 and M4 owners who already have a compatible Milltek system installed, specifically one with a 102 mm intermediate manifold or a two-straight-pipe configuration intended for this conversion. It allows you to upgrade the exhaust architecture without replacing the entire exhaust line.
