When unlocked, the buckle is attached to the 2 small straps. By attaching the buckle to our elastic thread, it will stay in the air without getting in the way when removing the spare wheel.
When you're ready to put the punctured wheel on, simply reattach the buckle and tighten the wide strap with the adjuster.
