The SmartyCam 4 Corsa from AIM is an on-board camera with data logging capabilities specifically designed for motorsports. It replaces the SmartyCam 3 Corsa and introduces a new generation of components and features to improve video recording, data acquisition, and session analysis.

A New Generation of SmartyCam Corsa

The SmartyCam 4 Corsa succeeds the SmartyCam 3 Corsa with several technical advancements. Notably, it features a 12 MP Sony CMOS sensor, new image processing with electronic stabilization, and a recording system that combines video and data into a single file.

This fourth generation thus retains the core feature that sets AIM cameras apart: recording a session while directly integrating vehicle and riding data into the video.

Full HD video with an 85° lens

The SmartyCam 4 Corsa records in Full HD 1920 x 1080 at 30 or 60 frames per second using H.264 or H.265 compression. Its 85° low-distortion lens offers a field of view suited for in-car use during racing.

Its 12-megapixel Sony CMOS sensor is paired with Sony LSI electronics stabilization. Image processing helps minimize the effects of vibrations, stabilize the horizon, and correct deformations to produce video that is more useful for analyzing sessions.

Vehicle data directly on the video

When connected to the vehicle’s CAN bus or a compatible AIM system, the SmartyCam 4 Corsa retrieves available information and can overlay it directly onto the video in real time.

Engine revs, speed, lap time, split times, temperatures, pressures, and other parameters can thus be displayed when this data is available. The driver then has access to a video that immediately links the track footage to the information needed to analyze their session.

Internal Data Logger with 64 GB USB-C Drive

The SmartyCam 4 Corsa features a comprehensive data logger: all channels from the CAN bus and internal sensors are recorded directly alongside the MP4 video file. This keeps the video footage and vehicle data together and synchronized, making analysis easier after each session.

A 64 GB USB-C drive is included to store videos and data, eliminating the need for an additional recording system.

Customizable Display with RaceStudio 3

The RaceStudio 3 software allows you to configure the SmartyCam 4 Corsa and customize the information displayed on the videos. Users can select the data relevant to their analysis and customize how it is graphically presented.

Overlays can include driving data, engine information, the track layout, and various graphical elements to create a video tailored to the driver’s or team’s needs.

Connection to the Engine Control Module and AIM Systems

The SmartyCam 4 Corsa can retrieve engine data from the engine control module via the CAN bus. It can also be connected to a compatible AIM data acquisition system to utilize the various channels available on the vehicle.

This integration allows for the centralization of video and data and eliminates the need to manually synchronize multiple sources after the session.

Automatic Recording

Once installed and configured, the SmartyCam 4 Corsa can automatically start and stop recording. This allows the driver to focus on their session without having to manually activate the camera before hitting the track.

Timing and global positioning system data

When paired with a compatible AIM global positioning system (gps) module, the SmartyCam 4 Corsa can use information about position and timing to enrich the data recorded and displayed on the video, including lap times, sectors, and the track layout.
