PIPERCROSS intake kit for BMW F8X M2 Competition/M3/M4
The Pipercross intake system has been designed and developed as a direct replacement for the original air boxes and integrated intake piping on BMW F8X M2 Competition, M3 and M4 vehicles equipped with the S55 engine.
CONICAL AIR FILTERS
Pipercross cone air filters are at the heart of the Pipercross intake kit. These filters feature Pipercross' proven air filter construction methods to achieve the kit's targeted airflow performance while maintaining the airflow margin to support significant future tuning packages/hardware upgrades. The custom-blended Pipercross foam offers a perfect balance between increased airflow and filtration, while the coated steel backing and formed and coated aluminium bases are inspired by decades of successful in-house manufacturing of Pipercross filters. The use of conical filters (each dedicated to a single turbocharger to maintain the original configuration) increases the filtration area by 58.95% compared to the original panel filter and features 76.0 mm outer diameter aluminium outlets. These filters form the basis for the increased performance offered by the Pipercross intake kit.
HEAT SHIELDS
Pipercross heat shields have been carefully designed to maximise the protected volume in the F8X M2C/3/4 engine compartment, thus optimising the performance of Pipercross conical air filters. Both heat shields are tailored to the original lower fresh air duct, shaping the airflow from the original inlets connected to the front heat exchanger cavity. In addition to utilising the lower duct, both Pipercross parts fully protect the filters from engine ambient heat, with central partition walls extending to the vehicle chassis member or large solid engine components. The two Pipercross components are CNC laser cut from 2mm corrosion resistant aluminium sheet and powder coated for increased corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal. The heat shields utilise the original anti-vibration chassis mounts, while adding several fixed attachment points (via additional bolt-on brackets) to ensure the long-term stability and durability of the kit. To further ensure the long-term durability of Pipercross parts, a hybrid EPDM edge trim is used to isolate the heat shields from direct contact with other components to prevent vibration-related part failure.
RIGID PIPES
The Pipercross F8X rigid pipe assemblies complement the benefits offered by the air filters and heat shield assemblies, enhancing the overall performance of the Pipercross kit. Both sets of rigid pipes are made of 76 mm outer diameter aluminium tubes that have been bent by CNC mandrel, for a constant transverse internal diameter in each set (compared to welded sections that can create areas of internal chips destabilising the flow). The longest Pipercross rigid pipe assembly has an 80 mm outer diameter end piece, to connect correctly to the original turbocharger inlet pipe while maintaining the one-piece construction of the tube. The location of the mass air flow sensor has also been carefully considered on each pipe assembly, with a CNC machined sensor boss placed in locations almost identical to the original pipework (to ensure consistent and accurate sensor readings with the Pipercross kit installed). Both assemblies are also equipped with mounts designed to accept vibration isolating mounts, in order to eliminate the risk of part failure due to long-term weld/tube fatigue. Each assembly is powder coated to strict specifications for increased corrosion resistance and aesthetic appearance without additional coating of internal bores/bosses.
