CARTEK PDM-8C 8-Channel CAN Power Distribution Module
The CARTEK PDM-8C is an 8-output power distribution module designed to manage the electrical equipment of a race car. It combines outputs of varying power ratings with preconfigured functions, enabling control of fuel pumps, radiator fans, heated windshields, headlights, and windshield wiper engines.
The PDM-8C features 2 high-power outlets rated up to 40 A, 4 outlets rated up to 20 A, and 2 outlets rated up to 15 A, specifically optimized for controlling windshield wiper motors. The maximum total available current is 120 A.
Preconfigured Functions for Electrical Equipment
CARTEK integrates several directly selectable output functions to adapt the PDM’s operation to various vehicle components. The module notably offers input-controlled operation, 1-Hz flashing, 5- or 10-minute time delays, and 5- or 10-minute over-run functions.
These functions are particularly useful for controlling fuel pumps, cooling fans, and heated windshields. A Soft Start function can also be selected for equipment with high inrush current at startup, such as fans and pumps.
Comprehensive Lighting Control
The CARTEK PDM-8C includes logic functions dedicated to controlling tail lights, low beams, main-beam headlamps, and long-range headlamps. The tail light outlet can be automatically activated when the low beams or main-beam headlamps are in use.
The high-beam logic allows their operation to be contingent on the activation of the high beams. A headlight flash input can also be configured to select the relevant lights and set their flashing frequency.
2-Speed Windshield Wiper Control
Two outlets on the PDM-8C are specifically optimized for controlling a 2-speed windshield wiper engine. The module offers low- and high-speed functions, as well as a mirror washer pump drive capable of automatically activating the high speed when the washer is in use.
The windshield wiper parking position input can be configured to operate on a falling edge (active-low signal) or on a rising edge (active-high signal).
8 Inputs and CAN Bus Connection
The module has 8 configurable inputs that can operate in active-low, active-high, edge-triggered, continuous, or PWM modes up to 200 Hz. It also features 3 auxiliary inputs that can be used, for example, for firing or various logic functions such as hazard warning lights, the windshield wiper parking position, or the headlight flash function.
The CAN Bus connection allows diagnostic information from the PDM to be transmitted, including outlet status, voltage, current, and configuration parameters. The outlets can also be controlled directly via the CAN Bus.
Input and Outlet Monitoring
RGB LEDs integrated into the pdm module allow you to visualize the status of the inputs and outlets. All connections are made using 12-pin, waterproof Amphenol Deutsch DT connectors. The terminal lugs and corresponding connectors are supplied with the module.
